Division

For this week’s Maths, Group 1 learned how to do the division algorithim long and short. e figured out a way to solve the quotient but using the standard division method. Writing numbers in vertical with the bigger numbers on top. While you’re dividing the numbers, keep track of the remainder and make sure the problems correctly, using this method has made me confident when solving division and letting me have a better understanding.

Life In The Annex

LI : To write a description with the Frank family in the annex in 1942

LS2 read a story about Anne Frank and what she wrote in her diary about her  experience she had in the annex. Mrs Anderson created a Gemini Gem to prompt us to think more deeply about what life would have been like in the annex, what we think what it felt in the annex and how it felt and how we can imagine ourselves in there. I really enjoyed using Gemini because it helped me on my work and gave me feedback and hints on what we need to added and showed us what we really did good in our text , I found this task really interesting because I never really learned about Anne Frank that much but now I can get the full experience in learning about her and her perspective of her life in the annex.

The annex was quiet except for the floorboards that groaned under foot. They walked with shoes filled with anxiety , every step sending thuds of dust through the cracks, a suffocating reminder of how thin the barrier was between life and death.

As the Germans barged in the house, terror froze our faces. We turned into statues the moment footsteps neared the hidden bookshelf tears tracked silently down their cheeks , but none of us dared to sob. We went immediately quiet once we heard footsteps coming near but then the Germans heard a mysterious noise coming from outside so they went to investigate. Sighs of reliefs filled the annex. All we wanted was peace and humbleness against the Germans but they never gave us a chance to speak what we wished for.

The space was so cramped, everyday the annex felt like it was shrinking , beds clashing together with hardly any space to walk , each step could make a noise we couldn’t afford to make. When peaking through the cracks Amsterdam was a mess and chaotic seeing police taking more and more Jewish people to camp.Hearing sirens going past each house scanning the perimeter of making sure all Jewish people are found and taken away, our  hiding place  was  more accurate  compared to the other houses that was used for hiding places. The longer the war, the worse the food gets. We mostly hid in their secret hideout being careful of each step we took to stay quiet of the people  who were exploring the library downstairs. Beneath the shadows, Anne Frank fought to keep her spirits from darkening. While the world tried to erase her she used her birthday diary to pull herself from reality. Every stroke of her pen was an act of confidence, a way to live a full vibrant life on paper while her body was behind the bookcase.

Multiplacation Algorithim

LI: How to calculate the product of whole numbers using algorithms.

For this week’s Maths , Group 1 learned how to do the mutilpication algorithm. We figured out a way to solve the quotient but using the standard multiplication method. Writing numbers in vertical with the bigger numbers on top. While you’re multiplying the numbers, keep track of the remainder to make sure the problems have been solved correctly, using this method has made me confident when solving multiplacation and letting me have a better understanding.

Addition algorithm

This week in maths, I learned how to add whole numbers using the addition algorithm. First, I made sure to line the numbers up correctly by place value so the ones, tens, and hundreds were in the right columns. Then I added from right to left, starting with the ones. If the total was more than ten, I carried the extra number to the next column. At first I had to be careful and check my work, but the more I practiced, the easier it became. Using this method helps me stay organised and get the correct answer. I feel more confident adding bigger numbers on my own now.

Subtraction algorithm

This week in maths, I learned how to calculate the difference of whole numbers using the standard subtraction algorithm. I practiced lining up numbers by place value and subtracting carefully from right to left. When the top digit was smaller than the bottom digit, I used regrouping to borrow from the next column. This method helped me stay organized and avoid mistakes. I feel more confident subtracting larger numbers now, and I understand why following the steps carefully is important.

Agent Of Change

For this week task we have decided to create a Agent Of Change. For this task we decided to create our goals for 2026 and what we want to achieve. In my Agent Of Change I have some things that I want to achieve even as a leader.

The things that I want to achieve is my confidence and my leadership towards being a leader. I also want to improve my rugby and volleyball skills this year. I also want to graduate to Epsom Girls College. One of my favorite sports is rugby.

Ko Wai Au

Talofa Lava, my name is Cattaleya and I am very excited to be a year 8 student and school leader at Panmure Bridge School. What I like to do in my free time is playing sports, especially rugby and touch. I have a special love for art. I expect to have the confidence and ability to be a good role model for the school as a school leader.
