The Storm Within Narrative Recording

For Reading my partner and I created a story inspired by Fly By Night.

This story really made me think more about how AI can help support our ideas, but also how the story was mostly our own thinking. This activity helped me improve my storytelling and teamwork skills. I’m getting more confident at sharing my ideas and trying new things, just like the owl in our story.

The Lady Who Said Ki Ora

For reading, we learned about Dame Naida Glavish. She is a woman who helped make a difference in New Zealand. She worked as a telephone operator, and when she answered calls, she greeted people by saying “Kia ora.” Her managers told her to stop saying it, but she kept doing it anyway. She did this because she believed the Māori language is an official language of New Zealand and that people should know about it. Because she kept saying “Kia ora,” the situation got a lot of attention, and even the prime minister at the time heard about it. One thing I found interesting was how Dame Naida Glavish led by example. She showed people how important culture is and how they should respect the land and others.

Johnny Pohe And The Great Escape

LI: To make an informed opinion

Our task was to create a DLO that shows both perspectives of this event. Our group considered whether or not the risks that Johnny Pohe took was a good choice or a bad choice. Because of this we have decided to create a pro and con about whether it was right of Johny Pohe to take risks.

Something we found interesting was that Johnny Pohe was a  New Zealand Maori Royal Air Force and a Bomber because of his vollentering.

The Great Shearers Strike

LI: to understand the story within the poem

For reading, we were challenged to create a DLO explaining both perspectives about the Great Shearers Strike. We watched 2 videos that told us about the Strike in Australia (the strike was inspired by future labour reforms and the birth of Australian Labour Party. We shared our knowledge to explain what we know from the video that is added to our perspective A and B (Farmers and Shearers). Did you know that the farmers were paying the shearers low money which led to the shearers to protest and show them what is not enough on the other side Shearers needed a day off due to showing their bosses about how they do things, treat others and how they were getting low paid money. In our own opinion it talks about which side is the best decision. We wrote a summary about the story of the Great Shearers Strike. We enjoyed learning about The Great Shearers Strike because we got to learn about how strike was invented and how they fought for their own rights.

Waltzing Matilda

LI: To understand the story within the poem

For Reading, we learned about a poem/song called Waltzing Matilda. We read a text that talked about a swagman traveling from one place to another. In the poem, for every end of the line there is “You’ll come a Waltzing Matilda with me”. When we read the poem, we answered all of the questions with our own words and what we know about it. We were challenged to create a DLO that reflects the analysis of the poem and to summarise the poem with exactly 25 words. We enjoyed doing this activity because we got to learn his history and understand.

MoodBoard

For Reading our task was to create a MoodBoard about the different feelings that the author had felt while writing this poem, This poem was called Child Coming Home In The Rain From The Store. I found this task also very fun because I have also used Adobe Express for theese photos.

Hone Tuwhare

For reading our task was to create a google vid about hone tuwhare and record ourselves reading aloud one of his poems called Rain. My partner was Amorangi and together we have created this google vid. We also had to use Adobe Express and create different photos for different lines. This task was very intresting because some of the photos were not really what I was looking for. Overall this task was certiainly one of my favorites because I love learning about people who were New Zealanders and about their story.

Malala Yousafai

LI: design a poster promoting one of Malala’s key messages (e.g., ‘Education is the only solution,’ ‘The pen is mightier than the sword,’ ‘One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen can change the world’).

For reading, we were challenged to create a poster about Malala Yousafzai key messages that she said in her speech. Before we did this challenge we watched a video of Malala Yousafzai speech, in her speech she talks about her fighting for her own rights . We read a text about ‘Malala Yousafzai Speech at United Nations Youth Assembly 2013′, on our guided reading we went through and answered questions by using our own words or getting hints from Gemini. One thing that was powerful was ‘one book, one teacher, one pen and one student”.  I enjoyed doing this task because it shows how much she cares about education and about the girls, and also about gender bias.

Once A Panther

LI: To identify the key historical context and events related to the Polynesian Panthers and the Dawn Raids as depicted in the graphic novel.

We read a text called Once A Panther and was asked to create a scene that sets the picture relating to the topic of pejudice, justice or taking a stand today using thought bubbles or a dialouge that that explains the image.

Something that I found intresting was how rudly people were being treated just because of their skin colour and of where they come from, Another thing that I have found intresting was that how they took a stand and said ” this is not right “.

For reading, Group 2 read a text called ‘Shameful stain on NZ history’: Polynesian Panthers push for dawn raids apology and were given the provocation – Should the Government of today(2021) apologise for the dawn raids of yesterday (1970s)? We were challenged to create a DLO that explores and discusses both perspectives of this historical event in our groups. Me and my partner used our smart searching skills to learn and find stuff about the dawn raids, which lead us to do why the government should apologies and why not our own opinion. For our own opinion we should perspective A (yes, the government of today should have apologized for the darn raids of yesterday) because if they didn’t apologies there would hate and harassment going towards them, and which have already hurt a lot of families etc. Something I found interesting about this text was that families and people have been going through a lot but when they apologized people forgave the government and started a new generation for those.
