Summer Learning Journey

At the end of last week, PBS celebrated the Summer Learning Journey with a special assembly. Mrs Grant joined us to give out certificates and prizes, and I was proud to receive one for taking part. I liked doing the SLJ because it made the holidays more interesting and gave me chances to keep learning new things. One activity I really enjoyed was creating a pick-a-path quiz about the wildlife of Aotearoa. I researched native animals and invasive predators and learned how they survive and interact with each other. Looking at images and videos helped me understand what makes each animal unique. Which gave me lots of fun and interesting activities to complete. It was a great way to stay engaged and keep learning instead of getting bored. I liked how the tasks were creative and allowed me to explore different topics in my own way.

Summer Learning Journey – Bug Treasure – Step It Up

Todays journey for the Summer Learning Journey was to find the insects in your house or outside your house and write some interesting facts below them. I found this task very interesting and fun because I found out that I have more insects outside my house then I thought I would.

This task took time only because it was hard finding little insects around your house. I found more then four insects but I decided to choose these four only because I thought that it has very good information about these four insects.

Overall this task was very fun and takes time and I would reccommend doing another activity like this again.

Summer Learning Journey – Bug Treasure Hunt – Kick Start

Today’s Summer Learning was very fun and creative because our task was to take photos of bugs around your house or yard. I found this task very interesting because I found out the  different types of creatures or insects that were in my house and yard.

The insects that I found around my house and lawn were months, roly poly bugs, crickets and lastly a ladybug. There were way more than just four insects but I decided to pick these four because I thought that these four were my favourite.

Something that I learnt while doing this Summer Learning Journey task was that the Atlas Moth is the biggest moth holding up to eleven inches ( 30 cm ).

Summer Learning Journey – Mosha’s Spiecal Leg

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, we designed a prosthetic leg for Mosha the elephant’s front left leg. Mosha was on a walk when she stepped on a rock and tripped so hard that she had to amputate her legs when was only seven months old, which made this task especially meaningful. I really enjoyed working on this activity because it required a lot of creativity and careful thinking. I spent a long time deciding which patterns and designs would best suit her leg, as I wanted it to look both functional and unique. This activity helped me understand the importance of empathy, problem-solving, and thoughtful design when creating something to help others.

Overall this task was very ntresting and fun both because of how she is going to like it and if it is comfortable. I chose blue because I feel like this colour suits her the most.

Summer Learning Journey – Step It Up ( Legs Tally )

For this Summer Learning Journey, Hasna and I found different types of facts about the Giant Centipede. We first started off with exploring information about centipedes, so we can answer those questions. This activity was found intresting by Hasna and I because some of these questions was hard to find about. But we ended up completing our task which made us proud of ourselves. One fact that I have learnt about centipedes is was how they only have an odd number of legs instead of even.

Summer Learning Journey – Legs Tally ( Kick Start )

For the next activity for Summer Learning Journey it is called Legs Tally, For this activity the studednts and I had to choice to show our maths knowledge using centipede legs. Our first instruction was to watch a video about centipedes and to also read about diffrent types of centipedes.

Our next instruction was to use our maths knowledge to fill out the DLO about questions and to write our answer and why. I found this task fun because I could learn about centipedes and also learn about maths at the same time. Overall this task helped me strive more in maths and also in the topic critters and creatures.

Summer Learning Journey – Art In The Web

This week for the Summer Learning Journey we created a spider web using our own imagination.

Our topic was called Art In The Web, Our first step was to learn how to draw a spider web, Our next step was to test our own spider skills and create our own spiders webs using pencil and paper. I found this task very intresting because we could play a game that relates towards the activity that we are completing. One fact that I have learnt about spider webs are theat they are thiner than a strand of hair but are super strong. Overall this task was very fun and entertaining.
